LOKIDocs — private, offline AI for your company documents
A desktop app that lets a company ask questions about its own documents in plain language and get answers with citations, while everything stays on the PC: local language models, a local index, no cloud and no token fees. Built in Germany for privacy-sensitive teams, signed, and available on the Microsoft Store.
Rust Tauri llama.cpp Ollama RAG HNSW axum JavaScript React TypeScript Supabase Stripe Netlify
Key Features
- Chat with your own documents and get answers with citations back to the source files
- Local-first: language models run on the device through llama.cpp, or through Ollama; documents, index and credentials never leave the PC, and it works fully offline
- Ingests PDF, Word (DOCX), Excel, CSV and text, and keeps the index up to date with a file watcher
- Vision-capable local models for images and scanned pages
- GPU acceleration (CUDA/Vulkan) or CPU-only, on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit)
- Workspaces, a document library, automations and search plugins (file, person and folder digests)
- English and German interface; the website is available in English, German, French and Greek
Challenges Overcome
- Shipping a local LLM runtime inside a store package: Microsoft Store and signed bundles are read-only, so the llama.cpp runtime is installed into the app-data folder on first run
- Code signing for Windows (cloud certificate) and macOS, with installers, an updater and an uninstaller
- Licensing without a cloud dependency for the documents themselves: per-device licences validated against a licence server, sold with Stripe and PayPal
- Keeping the document index fresh and fast on ordinary office PCs, with optional HNSW or FAISS vector search
